About
As a fine art photographer, my work follows a template that one might say was inspired by and roughly similar to that which the Farm Security Administration (FSA) used during the 1930s Great Depression and Dust Bowl. The FSA staff of ten photographers fanned out across the U.S. in an effort to faithfully record the plight of the farm and urban populations. Throughout this nation’s history the farm/urban community has continued to change, evolve, and contract from a one time high of more than 90% of our population to currently representing less than 10%. Today’s economic, political, and climatic environments are forcing a dramatic change in which the very existence of the small farm, town, and village may well be coming to a close. My passion and work captures not the plight of this dying way of life but rather the lasting heritage and legacy of determination, pride, and love that our forefathers have so profoundly impressed upon our society and nation. I seek to memorialize the honest hard work that it took to build this great nation. More broadly I wish to expose the simple beauty of the unexpected and perhaps in the end to stir a memory of a place you have never been!
The “Our Town” portfolio as seen here is the expression of that work and is sub-divided into groupings with the image placed within the state of its origin. Currently this includes the five states of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, and Louisiana. I use classic straight black and white photography to express my fascination with form, contrast, movement, and a real love of a fading way of life.
